Biography

Barbara A. B. Seiders, Ph.D.

Nuclear Security Administration Second Line of Defense program, she has been responsible for ensuring that SLD partners have the radiation detection equipment, training, procedures and infrastructure support that they need to be able to successfully monitor their borders to protect against illicit trafficking of radiological and nuclear materials.

Since joining the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in 1994, Dr. Seiders has worked with the nation’s best and brightest scientists and engineers, helping to develop technology systems to better defend against nuclear explosive, radiological, chemical and biological threats.

An experienced trainer and public speaker, Barbara was a member of the Speakers Bureau while at the Arms Control and Disarmament Agency and at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. She has been featured in local, regional and national media, such as the Seattle Post Intelligencer, NPR Morning Edition, and the History Channel.

 

 

With a passion for excellence through leadership and teamwork, Dr. Seiders has over 30 years of experience in nuclear, chemical and biological nonproliferation, arms control, threat reduction and defense. She has a demonstrated record of leadership, including serving as Science Advisor to Ambassador James Goodby, working with former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev on the Gorbachev Foundation Global Security Project, and as an expert consultant to former United Nations Secretary General Javier Perez de Cuellar on multiple occasions.

Barbara has traveled the world, from Vienna, Austria to Ulaan Baatar, Mongolia. Most recently, while supporting the  National
